5 Ways to Stop Mascara From Smudging
Here are 5 amazing ways to avoid the raccoon-eyed look created by smudged mascara, which is never a good look for everyday, especially at a professional setting. Smudged mascara can make you look tired, sloppy and ruin your entire makeup look. Here are 5 ways to prevent your mascara from running, so you can look polished and put together at all times.
1. Choose the right eye cream or moisturizer
The cream or gel you put around the eye can make your mascara run. Choose a water-based instead of oil-based formula and apply a small amount only. Do not apply any on your eyelashes as it will create a barrier on the lashes which will not allow the mascara to adhere; thus causing smearing throughout the day.
2. Avoid oily skin
Many individuals have oily eyelids which can come in contact with your mascara and cause smearing. Keeping your skin hydrated but non-oily is essential. Use oil controlling cleansers, toners and moisturizers or blotting paper throughout the day to keep the oil away.
3. Set your eye area with powder
Whether its after your apply your foundation or concealer, always set the eye area with a bit of setting powder to keep the area dry. This will prevent the mascara from contacting any oily surfaces around your eyes.
4. Choose a waterproof formula mascara
This may seem like a given but it may be the easiest solution. Choose a waterproof mascara that does not flake or a water-resistant formula that is easy to take off at the end of the day. The drier formulated mascara tend to stay put longer. One of the best waterproof mascaras is the Lancome Hypnose Waterproof mascara.
5. Try various eye looks
If you only wear mascara and no powder eyeshadow, your mascara is more likely to smudge since there is no barrier between your skin and mascara. So try different looks and have fun. One good way to prevent mascara from running to your lower lids is to apply eyeshadow along the lower lash line.
